This weekend (just gone), Ben Mawhinney completed the coast to coast again, this time from Walney Island (near Barrow in Furness) to Sunderland. Not as difficult as the Whitehaven to Tynemouth one, but cycling through Sunderland "city" centre leaves a lot to be desired. Not as bad as the miles of glass strewn North Shields cycle paths, but only because the Sunderland bit is much, much shorter (and thus, quicker). Tan Hill is great, but the descent on the third day isn't as cool as the Derwent Valley stuff. Good weekend though. Next time maybe we'll finish in Whitby?
